7:44 pm - Web Hosts?
(xposted from DA)
I'm such a plonker sometimes. First I tried to leave the gym by the 'in' turnstyle and got nowhere. Then when I tried the 'out' one I somehow go tangled in it, almost fell over the damn thing and ended up straddled halfway across. Really should look where I'm going...

Anyway. On to the matter in hand. I spent much of this afternoon reading horror stories about the company that hosts my websites, GISOL www.GISOL.com What a sorry tale of fraud, terrible customer services/technical support, domain names being held to ransom and general dodgy dealings. It seems I've gotten away lightly over the years with just an infuriatingly crap mySQL server. So now I've tagged my domains on snapnames.com (just in case the same thing that happened to ShadowsDark happens again) and am thinking on looking elsewhere when it comes to account renewal time so, can any of you recommend a good host to me?

I need:
mySQL databases (not just one)
hosting of multiple domains
phpBB
hotlink protection would be nice.
not too expensive.

So far I've looked at Dreamhost (though there was a worrying thing about them messing up their accounts but hopefully that was a one-off) and, er, that was about as far as I got.

So, recommendations, folks? Or if there's any I shouldn't touch with a barge pole then do say!

10:08 am - ...
Hello Livejournal, long time no speak... I've not really felt like I've had much to say which is strange because I've done rather a lot.

Jasper - got ill, had his teeth pulled out and is now doing fine. In fact, he's 18 now and going strong.

Dragon*con - great success! Not so great at keeping up with everyone after it - I really need to stop being shy about just emailing people to say hello. Still, I met some really smashing people there and had a great time. We went to New York beforehand, the highlights of which were seeing the Yardbirds at BBKing's and having a day at the Natural History Museum... might miss out the Big Apple next time though because it stank of wee and rubbish (but then it was August and most city's end up hot and smelly in the summer I suppose) and was way expensive.

My birthday - Thought it was just Steri, Debi and me for my birthday dinner but turned out everyone had been invited to surprise me.. best birthday in years and still puts a big smile on my face when I think about it :-)

5th Anniversary - Can you believe it? It's been 5 (well, 5 and a half now!) years since Steri and I got together :-) Good, eh?

Life Drawing classes - I enjoyed these and found them a marvellous help.

Shift Working - most weeks I now work 12pm-8pm (10-6 Fridays). Why? Extra pay to save up for next Dragon*con trip ^_^ And maybe a Cintiq. And a computer upgrade. And a digital camera. And a house. You get the picture.

March Metal Day - De Profundis, one of the bands Sterghios drummed in, played a stadium gig in Greece with Nightwish, Annihilator, Edguy, Nevermore, Tristania, Sodom et al... which was nice. Backstage was a fun experience though possibly I shouldn't have drank the entire bottle of Absolut I was handed. Was thrilled to meet Edguy (though I was rather too drunk to remember much of it) and got to hang out with some of the guys from Annihilator in Athens afterwards. Also great being in Greece with friends.

May MCM Expo at Excel - went swimmingly, thank you very much ^_^ I totally didn't expect the huge response I got at my table.

Therapy - decided it was time to kick out the unwelcome guest that is my recurrent depression and have started CBT.

And, yet to come ... the London Film and Comic Con, holiday in Greece, October MCM Expo. And, last but not least, Canterbury - Steri got an awesome new job! And I'll be heading down there to join him in the not too distant future :-) (i.e. once I get my arse in gear sorting out my CV XD).

Far as I can think, that's us up to speed. Now I just need to remember to keep up in future.

9:22 am - Dragon*con 2007 here I come!
"Dear Applying Artist,

Congratulations! The DragonCon 2007 Art Show Jurors have reviewed your work and you have passed jury! We are very pleased with having your work at the Show this year and look forward to seeing many of you in person. We will be sending further instructions about what to do next very soon, so please keep an eye out for the next email. Again, Congratulations!

John and Anne Parise

Dragon*Con 2007 Art Show Directors"

******************

Wahey!!!! Dragon*con 2007 here I come!

Given the amazing calibur of some of the people who got declined (some artists had been in for the last few years as well, which was kinda weird for them not to get in this year) I'm totally over the moon to have squeezed in! :boogie:

I got the Marriott booked and our flights sorted ... need to sort out somewhere to stay in New York (we're going there for a few days before going on to Atlanta) and, um, what else do I need to do? ... I guess getting some art done to sell would be an idea! :D

12:41 pm - Opinions?
I'm applying for the Dragoncon07 art show, but first I must pass thier Jury thing... Which means I need to pick 7 of my pictures and send 'em in for judging! This is giving me a headache so if any of you can offer ideas of which to include I'd appreciate it :)

The 'shortlist' be here:
http://drakhenliche.deviantart.com/journal/

I've got 2 already ('Thinking' and 'Stormlight' but the remaining 5 have a big question mark dangling above them!).

Apologies to anyone who reads my DA journal 'cos you've seen this already!

1:48 pm - Dragoncon 07
woo! I'm ever so excited. Finally got rounnd to starting to book stuff :)
SO, checklist:
Hotel Room - booked!
Dealer's table plus leccy for laptop or something - gonna ring Monday when the office opens. To be honest $520 for that is pretty good for a 4 day conference! Especially if I can find someone to share the table with since I'm sure I don't need a whole one. (they're 6 ft long).
Flights for me and Steri - Daddy dearest is sorting them since he gave me his airmiles for my main Christmas prezzie ^^ (and man does he have a lot of airmiles). Once we get that done and figure out where to stop off [info]innerbrat'll sort hers.
Things To Sell - uhm, I have some originals and magnets so far. ok, this is very much To Do!

Hm, what else does one need? *ponders*

10:55 am - Could someone please explain...
... how is it possible for some people to have their heads shoved *SO* far up their own bottoms?
And then a bunch of bootlicking sycophants just go on and try and cram themselves up there with that enormous ego too when there obviously isn't any room left for tapeworm.

- don't bother answering, I just felt moved to pose the question - (I've been cleansing my DA watchlist this morning 'cos the attitudes of certain 'popular' artists I've been watching have actually put me off their artwork.)

Oh, btw [info]innerbrat, your birfday prezzie from me and Steri's finally arrived ^_^

1:30 pm - Ah, Friday...
You know people've got that Friday feeling when they'd rather stand around talking about vomit than do labwork. Case in point - Sterghios on Tuesday after the 20-shot Jaegermeister 'cocktail'.

*blows away dust and cobwebs* maybe I should start using my LJ again...

Have I missed much?

If anyone's desperate to know what I've been doing then you could do worse than read my DeviantArt journal. Life is mostly good. Poor Ben died early in January and is still greatly missed :-( We have since adopted a new rescue kitty called Jasper who is lovely and rather less highly strung (so no more need our visitors fear kitty attacks). He's very sweet and dribbles when he's happy.

*goes off to do workstuff*

Right.

I'm definitely going, even if it has to be by myself.

Is anyone else up for it?

Please can you text me them if you ever want to hear from me again (or email me it... :looks at Jim:). Also if anyone has Nikki's number can you text me it - I've lost hers and her email so I've no way to get in touch! :-(

9:32 am - Football
I didn't watch it. However, just to see who won I checked out the Match of the Day Highlights and caught it just in time to see Zidane's headbutt! :D XD Not quite a glaswegian kiss since it was in the chest but still... XD

They should bring out Zidane and Materazzi action figures in order to immortalise that moment.

Also me and Steri took my grandmother to watch Pirates... it was awesome! And since Meme's French and Sterghios is Greek (and therefore both lack the whole Reserved British thing) they made more noise and laughed louder than anyone else in the cinema, bless 'em. Oh, and my gran screamed at the first surprise bit where someone jumps out the bushes and threw all our After Eights on the floor. 'twas most amusing. My shoes are still sticky.

When's number 3 coming out??!!

Also, I'm at work. If you're wondering why I've time to type, it's because all our equipment's been shipped off to Harlow. We were supposed to start at Harlow today too but, as I suspected, something got bollocksed up and we can't go there yet :D So here I am in Stevenage with nothing to do. Good, eh?

6:41 pm - Just wanted to say...
:begin subliminal message:
Spend, SPEND!

:end subliminal message:

I have rediscovered the joys of Cafepress. And an even better place called comboutique (or something) where they let you have more than one design for the same product :D

In other news: There is no other news. Soz, this is my first stop by LJ since forever!

10:42 am - FANGIRL SQUEEEEEE!!!
I met Zakk Wylde last night!!!!!!!!! EEEEeeeeeeee!!!!

We were at the Crobar after going to Garlics and he came over and sat for a drink and a chat with me, Steri and Pete!!!! And I got to kiss him on the cheek *will never wash lips again*

I was chatting to the (rather drunk) random woman we were sharing a table with saying I thought it was Zakk there but I was too shy to go up to him. Then she got up and wandered off and then came back to the table bringing him along to say hi!!!! Alas I turned into a giggling fangirl so Sterghios ended up talking to him instead but at least I somehow managed not to embarrass myself in front of him.

Anyway, SQUEEEEEeeeeee. I've a photo too, but it's still on Steri's mobile.

For those who don't know, Zakk's Ozzy Osborne's guitarist and also has his own band 'Black Label Society'. Some girls have their girly crushes on pop stars, some on film stars but my girly crush was Zakk Wylde.

(ps. [info]innerbrat hope you don't mind I'm using your pc 'cos the internet won't work on mine)

We move house tomorrow. Happyjoypoos all round. I'll miss the church - it's such a gorgeous flat! However I won't miss the lack of double glazing, the lack of light or the complete mess it's been in for the last few weeks.

In other news I have bought my car. 'tis a lovely little motor but don't expect me to be street parking it in London.

In other, other news I'VE BEEN SIGNED OFF WORK FOR SIX WHOLE WEEKS!!!!
SIX whole weeks
six WHOLE weeks
six whole WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!! (fully paid of course)
This is because my carpal tunnel/RSI's got no better and it's been recorded as an occupational illness by our health department so they told me to piss off home and not come back 'til it's better. This won't mean I'll be online more since the computer doesn't help, but it should help with my being burnt out and my depression. So good. This result is most pleasing.

12:20 pm - The Badly Knitted Jumper
As per previous whinges, our entire department's moving to the Harlow site in July. Yah, boo hiss. Everything's been organised in paper but now that 'reality checks' between paper and practice are being made, little threads here and there are snagging and the whole thing appears to be slowly unravelling... Considering the horrible mess HR made of handling our relocation (i.e. work-life balance out the window), I can't help but feel a deep sense of satisfaction to see this happening.

Mm, karmaliscious.

In other news things are moving. We (me, Debi, Steri and Ben) move to Southgate on the 14th. Tomorrow I am getting a car (2003 Nissan Micra 1.5 diesel SE. Laugh if you will but you can suck on my super-low fuel consumption, bitch). My wrist is still bad and I might end up being signed off work for a while to rest it - I think it needs it.

Anyway. Too busybusybusy to keep up with anything online and will continue to be so for a good while yet.

My arse hurts. My tailbone, to be specific. Sympathy, please. Finally had that injection yesterday and now sitting hurts too much to use the pc. [info]elschmo - I'll get back to you soon as I can sit still long enough ;)

In the meantime, here's what I did whilst lying on the sofa...
